About the role

This position works collaboratively with a team to ensure the Siletz Tribal Recreation Facility is clean, safe, well maintained, and fully operational through comprehensive custodial and facility maintenance services.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and oversees all custodial work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency as directed by the Public Works Director.
  • Ensures the security of buildings, grounds, and facilities during assigned shifts by monitoring for safety concerns, securing access points, and promptly reporting incidents, safety hazards, and maintenance issues to the Public Works Director.
  • Assists Director in purchasing cleaning supplies and equipment; schedules clean-up and repairs as directed.
  • Performs a variety of custodial cleaning and light maintenance duties to ensure the facility remains clean, safe, and well maintained, including:
    • Dusting furniture
    • Mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and buffing floors
    • Vacuuming and shampooing carpets
    • Emptying wastebaskets and properly disposing of waste
    • Cleaning walls, windows, and blinds
    • Washing coffee equipment
    • Dusting ceiling fixtures
  • Performs aseptic cleaning of high-touch areas of the facility.
  • Disposes of hazardous waste material and adheres to all proper procedures when collecting, boxing, handling, and transporting bio-hazardous materials.
  • Knows proper procedures for shutting off utilities in emergency situations, including knowledge of shut-off points for water and electricity, and provides direction to repair technicians.
  • Sorts recyclable material.
  • Takes inventory, maintains storage areas, and replenishes supplies.
  • Keeps restrooms in clean, orderly, sanitary conditions; cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes bathroom fixtures; ensures restrooms are properly stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Assists Public Works Director with any damage or repair work needed or safety hazards.
  • Secures facility upon completion of duties.
  • Assists Public Works Director in planning the annual budget for the custodial program.
  • Sets up, arranges, and breaks down chairs, tables, bleachers, electronic scoring equipment, and other equipment for meetings, recreational programs, and special events.
  • Performs routine custodial and minor maintenance duties, including trash removal, unclogging toilets, replacing light bulbs, and addressing basic equipment and facility issues.
  • Operates custodial equipment and tools safely and effectively, including floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuums, power washers, and lifts, while following all safety procedures and product instructions.
  • Recognizes and reports routine maintenance concerns related to HVAC, lighting, electrical, plumbing, and other building systems to the Public Works Director or appropriate service provider for corrective action.
  • Conducts and documents monthly inspections of emergency eyewash stations to ensure proper operation and compliance.
  • Performs monthly inspections of fire extinguishers and coordinates required annual inspections and servicing with approved vendors.
  • Inspects and tests smoke alarms, carbon monoxide (CO) detectors, and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) on a monthly basis; maintains inspection records.
  • Tracks, monitors, and coordinates required backflow testing and maintains associated compliance documentation.
  • Monitors facility equipment and furnishings to ensure safe operation and compliance with established maintenance standards.
  • Conducts monthly elevator inspections and coordinates annual inspections, certifications, and preventative maintenance with qualified vendors.
  • Performs monthly generator inspections and coordinates scheduled preventative maintenance and servicing to ensure emergency readiness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and 2 years of combined experience as a custodian, building maintenance, grounds keeping, or related field — or any combination of education and/or work experience.
  • Knowledge of janitorial, building maintenance, grounds and equipment maintenance, management, and repair.
  • Knowledge of ADA compliance and building maintenance.
  • Experience in custodial and building maintenance duties sufficient to effectively clean, disinfect, and maintain the interior and exterior of buildings, as well as keep the property grounds well-groomed.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary recreation facility, including restrooms, locker rooms, gymnasiums, common areas, floors, windows, and outdoor spaces.
  • Must be physically able to safely and efficiently perform the duties of the position, including:
    • Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving objects weighing 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds
    • Standing and moving about for long periods
    • Working safely on ladders
  • Must possess a valid state Driver’s License and vehicle insurance.
  • Must possess and maintain a first aid and basic lifesaving card, or have the ability to acquire within the first 12 months of start date.
  • Must be able to work early morning or late night hours, and occasionally on weekends.
