About the role
This position plays a vital role in the smooth operation of the Liberty Center at Naval Station Mayport. The Recreational Aid is responsible for issuing equipment, tracking usage, and providing essential information about on-base activities to single sailors. They support management with event coordination, ensure compliance with facility rules and regulations, and handle payments and record-keeping for Liberty activities.
Responsibilities
- Performs assigned duties and provides necessary services to authorized patrons, including general information and support of Community Recreation and fitness programs.
- Provides information concerning facilities and operations, ensuring adherence to regulations, safety, and security procedures.
- Assists in maintaining routine reports and may perform clerical, custodial, or general maintenance duties as needed.
- Operates a cash register, Point of Sale (POS) system, processes transactions including equipment loan, rentals, resale, and program registration; receives payments and makes change.
- Provides customer service by greeting patrons in person and by telephone; takes messages and handles customer requests or referrals to appropriate staff.
- Performs tasks related to Community Recreation and fitness program delivery, such as inventory control, equipment inspection, restocking, POS system operation, and cash handling.
- Adheres to NAVMED P-5010 sanitation requirements.
- Provides support for Community Recreation event setup and breakdown.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successfully complete a background investigation, including fingerprint identification.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check; discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- Must complete a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process requiring two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
- May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
- A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
- Must have salary sent to a financial institution via Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Work may require sitting, walking, long periods of standing, bending, and lifting moderate to heavy items up to 40 pounds; occasionally required to lift heavier items.
- Work schedule is flexible and varies based on program needs, including nights, weekends, holidays, and split days off.
- Must obtain Emergency First Responder or CPR certification, Food Handlers, and C.A.R.E training within the first 90 days of employment, where applicable.
- Complete a National Agency check upon employment.
Qualifications
- Basic reading comprehension to adhere to published rules, regulations, standard operating procedures, checklists, and other guides.
- Ability to perform basic custodial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping, and dusting.
- Basic computer operations and keyboarding skills, including operation of point of sale systems and desktop computers.
- Basic arithmetic calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Basic customer service skills to identify customer needs, deliver expected service, and resolve routine customer issues.
- Basic understanding of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation department to answer customer questions or refer them to the appropriate activity.
- Credit is given for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part-time work. Resumes must clearly identify duties, responsibilities, and total hours per week for each position held.
