Receiving Coordinator
About the role
The St. Louis Area Foodbank (SLAFB) is a member of Feeding America, a national network of 200 food banks working together to ensure equitable access to nutritious food. SLAFB supports 26 counties in Missouri and Illinois, serving more than 400,000 people annually through a network of 600 hunger-relief programs and local agencies.
Responsibilities
- Physically unload and perform visual inspection of inbound freight. Document the temperature of frozen and refrigerated items and ensure compliance with food safety standards.
- Prepare appropriate invoices and shipping labels using Microsoft Dynamic software. Enter data into CERES 5.1, the Foodbank’s warehouse management system.
- Create USDA receipts to document receipt of government product. Coordinate storage and rotation of products in an efficient, organized, and safe manner.
- Label and store items accurately. Rotate and remove product as directed. Escalate issues related to item quality and inventory accuracy to Operations management.
- Provide daily inventory reports to Operations management. Conduct accurate physical inventory counts and report discrepancies promptly.
- Research and resolve inventory discrepancies by identifying root causes, collaborating on solutions, and recommending process improvements.
- Follow food safety and equipment safety policies. Model and reinforce safe work practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Prior warehouse experience required, with a minimum of 2 years preferred.
- Previous inventory control experience preferred.
- Skilled in operating forklifts (stand up and walkie riders), with forklift certification required within 30 days of employment.
- Experience with safety standards and OSHA requirements a plus.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite of Applications preferred.
- Past data entry experience preferred.
- Previous experience with web-based systems preferred.
- Excellent time management and multitasking skills.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Prior non-profit experience preferred.
- Passport required for international travel.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a warehouse with significant walking on concrete surfaces. Conditions can vary from hot to cold, and may involve exposure to dust, noise, and spoiled food. Employees may be exposed to sharp objects and must lift, bend, stoop, and pick up objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Manual pallet jacks are used, requiring an ability to push and pull pallets weighing up to 2,000 pounds.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday onsite at the Foodbank facility and in the community as needed. Occasional weekend (Saturday/Sunday) or evening hours may be required.
