About the role

Beztak, a national Real Estate Development, Construction, and Property Management company, is seeking a Real Estate Paralegal to join our team in Farmington Hills, MI. This role supports the General Counsel, outside attorneys, and internal risk management department in all aspects of litigation support.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with attorneys and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects.
  • Draft legal documents, including routine pleadings and motions, affidavits, and interrogatories.
  • Research and analyze statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provide written analysis to attorneys.
  • Collect and organize relevant documents, information, and data for attorney review and case preparation.
  • Manage discovery, subpoenas, and other document requests; compile responsive information and records.
  • Interview witnesses and prepare summaries of their statements.
  • Monitor incoming pleadings, discovery, and other case-related documents.
  • Maintain calendar and manage deadlines, ensuring attorneys are aware of critical dates.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or related field required.
  • Some related experience preferred.
  • Real estate and/or real estate finance experience preferred but not required.

Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of legal language, principles, research methods, court pleadings, and processes.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent time management with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with court filing systems and federal, state, and local rules of practice.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and occasionally stressful environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and good judgment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Work Environment

This position typically operates indoors in an air-conditioned office with a mixture of natural, incandescent, and fluorescent lighting. The role requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, as well as frequent walking, standing, and communication with co-workers, guests, and the public.
