About the role

The Operator - RM Batch is responsible for efficiently and accurately batching concrete according to specified mix designs and customer orders. This role requires a strong understanding of concrete materials, batching equipment, and quality control procedures to ensure the production of high-quality ready-mix concrete. The operator will also be responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment and coordinating with other plant personnel.

Essential Functions

  • Operate and maintain the batching control system to produce various concrete mixes.
  • Accurately measure and weigh aggregate, cement, water, and admixtures according to specified mix designs.
  • Monitor and adjust batching parameters to ensure consistency and quality of the concrete.
  • Coordinate with truck drivers for timely loading of ready-mix trucks.
  • Maintain accurate batching records and production logs.
  • Perform routine quality control tests on aggregates and fresh concrete (e.g., slump, air content, temperature) as required.
  • Identify and report any deviations from mix design specifications or quality standards.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Control department to resolve issues and improve concrete quality.
  • Conduct pre-shift inspections of batching equipment and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs.
  • Perform minor maintenance and lubrication of batch plant equipment as directed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including the control room and batching plant.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Monitor inventory levels of raw materials (aggregates, cement, admixtures) and communicate replenishment needs to management.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, truck drivers, maintenance personnel, and management.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience operating a ready-mix concrete batch plant is highly preferred.
  • Experience with automated batching systems a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of concrete mix designs and materials.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret mix design specifications.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment operation and minor maintenance.
  • Proficient computer skills for operating batching software.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to batching.

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
  • Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of concrete, cement, or construction industries is preferred.
  • Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
  • Able to stand, walk, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Able to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Able to work in a dusty and noisy environment.

Pay

Hourly Range: the hourly range for this role is between $22.79 – $28.25. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors, including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
