About the role

The Plant Manager at Reddy Ice is responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day operations of a plant, overseeing multiple departments including Manufacturing, Distribution, Delivery Execution, Maintenance, Sales, Environmental Health & Safety, and Purchasing. This role supports the development of new business and maintains current operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, quality, and superior customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve financial goals by tracking P&L metrics and participating in financial analysis and planning.
  • Assist the Market Manager in developing and managing annual capital expenditures, sales forecasts, and P&L management for assigned plants.
  • Review and approve invoices, expenses, and other accounting reports as required by policy.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement capital improvement projects that enhance efficiency and contribute to company goals and objectives.
  • Identify and implement improvement efforts to promote a performance-driven and continuous-improvement environment for manufacturing operations.
  • Promote innovation and creativity within the plant by evaluating manufacturing, production, and logistics processes for improved efficiencies.
  • Manage operational plant performance, ensuring all customer orders are fulfilled on schedule and within budget.
  • Maintain plant’s PSM/RMP and HACCP programs, and oversee the Preventive Maintenance program.
  • Manage hiring, training, and performance of all DSD drivers, as applicable, either directly or in support of a Distribution Supervisor(s).
  • Manage delivery execution, including scheduling, delivery execution, and DVM board, ensuring all deliveries are made safely and efficiently.
  • Drive safety and compliance as a priority, including DQ files, hours of service, daily vehicle inspection reports, and accident reporting and completion.
  • Manage handheld, fuel cards, and fleet, and create a safety-focused culture.
  • Track and monitor safety metrics and communicate these metrics to plant staff, investigate and review accidents and injuries, and ensure timely and accurate documentation.
  • Create a positive culture that supports personnel development and growing strong talent, and outline succession plans for top talent.
  • Partner with Human Resources to establish, drive, and maintain all people practices and ensure 100% adherence to established timelines.

Requirements

  • College degree preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in ice business or related food production industry with an understanding of seasonal demand.
  • Four (4) to six (6) years of leadership/management experience in a large manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a quick-change environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing & distribution capabilities, process improvements, root cause analysis, and computer skills.
  • Project management or technical leadership experience.
  • Results-oriented with a high level of organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to develop and mentor resources.
  • Able to work in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Ability to work in an unfatigued state.
  • Ability to accurately gauge lengths of time and distance.
  • Ability to quickly store and recall instructions in one’s short term memory.
  • Ability to concentrate and perform tasks involving high levels of cognitive function and judgment.
  • Ability to cope with sudden changes in surrounding and/or emergency situations and/or alarms.
  • Demonstrate a caring, committed, and concerned attitude about safety.
  • Possess fast reflexes and unimpaired coordination and ability to rapidly respond to stimuli.
  • Ability to take prompt and appropriate responses to operating conditions.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Direct or indirect supervision of all Plant employees.
