Responsibilities
- Work cooperatively with classroom teachers, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students, assisting in classroom intervention strategies, modifying general education curricular as necessary, and assisting the student with regular class assignments.
- Conduct diagnostic assessments for instruction.
- Relentlessly work to meet all goals related to student achievement and culture as well as state specific achievement goals.
- Utilize research-based best practices in daily planning and instruction.
- Integrate culturally responsive teaching practices into daily lessons and interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Serve as advisor for a designated set of students.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding the academic and social-emotional growth of their child.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of non-instructional activities such as social events and field trips.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A bachelor's degree in education, English, or a related field.
- A valid Michigan K-8 Reading Endorsement (preferred) or K-5 all subjects, K-8 all subjects teaching certification.
- Experience delivering targeted Reading interventions and using student performance data to inform and adjust instruction.
- Strong knowledge of effective elementary and/or middle school Reading instructional practices.
- Familiarity with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and/or Response to Intervention (RTI) frameworks.
- A proven track record of improving student achievement and accelerating growth in Reading or ELA.
- Experience implementing reading intervention programs and utilizing data-driven instructional strategies.
- Knowledge of diagnostic assessments, progress monitoring tools, and differentiated instruction practices.
- Comfort working in a growth-oriented environment that includes frequent observations, coaching conversations, action planning, and continuous improvement.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a high-performing team.
- The ability to successfully pass federal and state criminal background checks (FBI/BCI).
- Experience working effectively with diverse students, families, and multicultural educational communities.
