About the role

The Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Industrial Engineering in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Cincinnati invites tenure-track or tenured candidates at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to apply for the Randall J. Allemang Endowed Professor position. This role benefits from a generous chair endowment, a competitive salary, and the David L. Brown, PhD Memorial Endowment fund, which supports scholarships, fellowships, travel, and equipment purchases. The position focuses on experimental testing, modeling, and control of complex electro-mechanical systems, and structural dynamics and vibrations, including areas such as meta-structures, lightweight space structures, additively manufactured structures, AI-driven structural modeling, and vibration sensing.

The successful candidate will leverage the legacy of the University of Cincinnati – Structural Dynamics Research Laboratory (UC-SDRL), established by the late Prof. Randall Allemang and Prof. David Brown, and will benefit from strong industry and government research laboratory connections.

Responsibilities

• Develop a world-class research program in Mechanical Engineering by attracting extramural funding and publishing in professional journals.
• Advise graduate and undergraduate students in research within the area of interest.
• Establish and nurture relationships with industry and government research laboratories to address impactful research and development needs.
• Build externally funded joint ventures, such as multi-investigator research teams and centers, and strengthen industry partnerships through research collaborations and workforce development.
• Extend partnerships with KU Leuven and its Leuven Mechatronics & System Dynamics (LMSD) Laboratory in structural dynamics and vibration.
• Teach graduate and undergraduate engineering courses specific to the specialty area within Mechanical Engineering.
• Participate in service activities, including editorial/peer review, mentoring, and serving on departmental, college, and university committees.

Requirements

• Doctoral Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, obtained prior to the effective date of appointment.
• Currently hold at least a tenure-track or tenured Associate Professor position.

The Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Industrial Engineering has 44 faculty members and enrolls about 1,900 undergraduate and 260 graduate students.
