About the role

The School of Engineering at the University of Missouri – Saint Louis (UMSL) is seeking up to three adjunct appointments to teach undergraduate courses and laboratories in Mechanical Engineering – Computer Aided Design (Autodesk Inventer), Statics, Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Mechanics of Materials and Laboratory-based introductory courses.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and enhancing curriculum materials to support student learning.
  • Advising and mentoring undergraduate students, and design competitions.
  • Promoting ethical standards and professional values in the classroom and beyond.
  • Contributing to departmental services, ABET Accreditation, program assessment, and program development.
  • Collaborating with faculty to strengthen the undergraduate learning experience.

Qualifications

  • PhD or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching or strong potential for effective teaching.
  • Evidence of mentoring students, with a commitment to supportive pedagogy is highly desirable.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate courses and labs.
  • Effective communication skills, and commitment to experimental learning and student success.

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience with modern instructional technologies.

Benefits

The position does not offer benefits. Individuals in non-benefit eligible positions may choose to participate in the Tax Deferred Annuity Plan (403b).

Pay

The salary range for this position is determined based on qualifications and experience.

Other Information

The School of Engineering at the University of Missouri – Saint Louis (UMSL) is committed to accessibility and flexibility, ensuring that students can pursue their educational goals in a manner that suits their needs. Faculty will conduct scholarship to expand the bounds of engineering knowledge. The school will be housed in newly renovated teaching and research labs, including a Student Project Design Laboratory, which is being funded by a $15-million grant from the State of Missouri and is expected to be completed in Fall 2026.
