RamBikes Technician

Duties & Responsibilities

• Inspect and repair bicycles brought to the facility and in the RamBikes rental fleet.
• Affiliate with promoting VCU’s alternative transportation options and sustainability goals.
• Staff the shop and assist with planning and implementing strategies to improve bike culture at VCU and in Richmond.
• Affiliate with advertising bicycle services to the campus population through various marketing strategies and social media.
• Fix and maintain bicycles used for RamBikes bike loan program.
• Fix bicycles for VCU Community on as-needed basis.
• Affiliate with bike/alternative transportation educational programs and special events.
• Perform clerical and administrative work.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of various types of biking, experience with riding in Richmond, and eagerness to learn about bike repairs and mechanics.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Basic computer skills including knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs.
• An interest in connecting with the student population through in-person advocacy and social media outreach.
• An interest in promoting bicycling as transportation.
• An interest in fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Schedule

This position is an hourly position that staffs the RamBikes shop during open hours, which will be Monday-Friday 10:00AM-4:00PM. RamBike Technicians should expect to work four of the five open shop days, 9:30AM-4:30PM. This will primarily be in the shop, but there may be additional hours or duties during the work week assisting the bike coordinator with tabling at university events, co-teaching workshops, supporting special programs and partnerships, and supporting VCU and community bike events.

This position may work up to 29 hours/week.
