About the role

The Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) position at RailPros is responsible for providing on-site roadway worker protection for activities on and around live railroad tracks. Key responsibilities include job site coordination, dispatcher/train communication, and various types of On-Track Safety.

Responsibilities

  • Provide required jobsite protection on each assignment, error-free and consistent with the rules; including but not limited to radio communication with train dispatchers and engineers, ensuring work groups are clear of limits during train movements, granting permission for trains and on-track equipment to proceed through limits
  • Prepare and submit required electronic forms including but not limited to: a job setup form for each flagging assignment, daily work reports, invoices, and other reports as required
  • Handle and place signs, derail and other tools and equipment weighing 15 to 90 pounds, which may be necessary multiple times throughout the day
  • Maintain a high level of communication with the RWIC supervisors and managers regarding the various assignments and schedules
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture, free from behaviors that undermine morale, productivity, or organizational values
  • Uphold the organization's standards of integrity, accountability, and respect in all duties and interactions
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned or required to meet the business needs

Qualifications

  • Able to complete required physical demands and/or tasks
  • Able to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trains
  • Understand the on-track safety training and qualification required of the roadway workers to be protected
  • Proficient in the radio procedure for communicating between RWIC/EIC’s (Employee in Charge) and assigned work group
  • Proficient in performing a job briefing with all the roadway workers within their work location
  • Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs
  • Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device
  • Proficient with electronic communications including email and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
