About the role

The Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) position at RailPros is responsible for providing on-site roadway worker protection, coordinating job sites, and handling various types of On-Track Safety tasks. This role requires frequent travel across multiple states.

Responsibilities

• Provide required jobsite protection on each assignment, including radio communication with train dispatchers and engineers.
• Ensure work groups are clear of limits during train movements and grant permission for trains and on-track equipment to proceed through limits.
• Prepare and submit required electronic forms such as job set-up forms, daily work reports, invoices, and other reports as needed.
• Handle and place signs, derail and other tools and equipment weighing up to 90 pounds, as necessary.
• Maintain a high level of communication with RWIC supervisors and managers regarding assignments and schedules.
• Participate in routine safety classes and qualification training.
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.

• Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet business needs.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• A minimum of 2 years in Maintenance in Way (MOW) and/or Trade Yard & Engine (TY&E).
• Able to complete required physical demands and/or tasks.
• Able to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trains.
• Understand the on-track safety training and qualification required of the roadway workers to be protected.
• Proficient in the radio procedure for communicating between RWIC/EIC’s (Employee in Charge) and assigned work group.
• Proficient in performing a job briefing with all the roadway workers within their work location.
• Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs.
• Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device.
• Proficient with electronic communications including email and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite).
