Railcar Repair Technician

About the role

Transco Rail Services, part of Marmon Holdings (backed by Berkshire Hathaway), delivers full‑service railcar repair and maintenance across North America, serving freight and tank car fleets with a focus on safety, compliance, quality, and reliable service.

Responsibilities

• Conduct all aspects of repair and maintenance on tank cars.
• Demonstrate good leadership and team skills while maintaining a safety‑conscious approach.
• Use current repair procedures for railcar repair.
• Perform railcar inspections to ensure compliance and carry out necessary repairs.
• Provide customer support by meeting expectations and ensuring satisfaction.
• Handle clerical duties: complete invoicing, inspection, and work order information.
• Maintain all required certifications and demonstrate strong familiarity with AAR rules and regulations.
• Perform other work‑related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% (including weekly local travel, regional day trips, and potential overnight travel as needed).

Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude with ability to problem‑solve and make decisions.
• Ability to use hand tools (pipe wrenches, pry bars, wrenches, ratchets, etc.) to chip and grind weld slag or spatter.
• Capable of handling and completing basic railcar repairs and inspections.
• Strong customer relations and interpersonal skills; able to work as part of a team.
• Ability to work safely and follow proper procedures.
• Ability to work in all types of weather conditions.
• Maintain required certifications and demonstrate strong familiarity with AAR rules and regulations.

Starting pay rate: $24.92 /hr

Schedule

Hours: Monday‑Friday, 6:00 am – 2:30 pm
