Railcar Repair Technician

About the role

As a Railcar Repair Technician at Transco Rail Services—a part of Marmon Holdings, backed by Berkshire Hathaway—you’ll conduct all aspects of repair and maintenance on tank cars. This role emphasizes safety, compliance, quality, and reliable service while working within a broad North American network of fixed shops and mobile field service teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct railcar inspections to ensure compliance and perform repairs as necessary using current repair procedures.
• Meet customer expectations to ensure satisfaction with completed work.
• Complete all necessary invoicing, inspection, and work order documentation accurately.
• Maintain all required certifications and demonstrate strong familiarity with AAR rules and regulations.
• Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Mechanical aptitude with problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to use hand tools (e.g., pipe wrenches, pry bars, ratchets) and equipment for chipping/grinding weld slag or spatter.
• Experience with basic railcar repairs and inspections.
• Strong customer relations and interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of a team.
• Commitment to working safely and following proper procedures.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions.
• Valid Driver’s License (TWIC preferred).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stoop for extended periods and transition between kneeling and standing positions.
• Capability to lift up to 50 pounds from ground level.
• Ability to climb ladders and perform work at elevated heights.
• Ability to pass a FIT Test and wear a respirator.
• Must pass a company physical exam, drug screening, and background check.

Schedule

• 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
• Some weekend and holiday coverage as needed.

Pay

Starting pay rate: $24.92 per hour.
