Railcar Repair Technician

About the role

As a part of the global industrial organization Marmon Holdings—which is backed by Berkshire Hathaway—you’ll conduct all aspects of repair and maintenance on tank cars. This position requires strong leadership and team skills, a commitment to safety, and familiarity with current repair procedures, AAR rules, and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct railcar inspections to ensure compliance and perform repairs as necessary.
• Meet customer expectations to ensure satisfaction with work performed.
• Complete all necessary invoicing, inspection, and work order documentation.
• Maintain all required certifications and demonstrate proficiency in AAR rules and regulations.
• Perform other work-related tasks as assigned, including basic railcar repairs and customer support.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Mechanical aptitude with problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to use hand tools (e.g., pipe wrenches, pry bars, wrenches, ratchets) and equipment for chipping/grinding weld slag or spatter.
• Experience with basic railcar repairs and inspections.
• Strong customer relations and interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of a team.
• Commitment to working safely and following proper procedures.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Travel required: up to 50%, including weekly local travel, regional day trips, and overnight travel as needed.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stoop for extended periods and routinely move from kneeling to standing positions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds from the ground surface.
• Ability to climb ladders and perform work at elevated heights.
• Ability to pass a FIT Test and wear a respirator.
• Must pass a company physical exam, drug screening, and background check.

Schedule

5:00 am - 1:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Some weekend and holiday coverage as needed.

Pay

Starting pay: $26.04 per hour.
