Radiology Technologist - 7am to 3:30pm - Bluebonnet (Commitment Bonus Available)

About the Role

To perform radiographic exams across all modalities covered under the staff radiographer's license. Monitor and evaluate patient care quality and efficiency as part of a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring care is appropriate for the age population served, as defined in the department's scope of service.

Responsibilities

• Provides technical skills for the operating functions of the treatment area(s). Works with other patient care personnel to improve service delivery, facilitates open communication within the department, and ensures effective communication on exam charges.
• Maintains knowledge of PACS and computer systems. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of advanced technical procedures and serves as a resource for technical issues.
• Coordinates all patient care activities in assigned treatment area, ensuring optimal patient scheduling, treatment, record keeping, calculations, and machine functions.
• Performs radiologic procedures in accordance with unit-based standards of practice:
  • Adjusts X-ray equipment and sets exposure factors such as time and distance.
  • Demonstrates effective knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques and protocols.
  • Transfers, positions, and instructs patients regarding procedures.
  • Produces high-quality images and positions patients for optimal data collection while ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Transports patients to the radiographic room and prepares/maintains the room following safety guidelines.
  • Assesses patient data to identify age-specific healthcare needs.
  • Performs procedures across modalities and in unusual situations.
  • Corroborates patient clinical history with procedures to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepares patients for procedures, providing instructions to minimize anxiety and gain cooperation.
  • Applies radiation protection principles to minimize risks to patients, self, and others.
  • Operates radiography equipment and associated accessories to perform procedures successfully.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality and prepares patient records in electronic charts.
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned areas, reports equipment malfunctions, and coordinates supply ordering.
  • Ensures all lab work meets radiologists' protocols and physicians complete informed consent forms.
  • Prepares, identifies, and/or administers contrast media and medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Demonstrates courtesy and effective communication with staff, physicians, patients, and co-workers.
• Demonstrates correct and safe operation of radiographic equipment:
  • Complies with radiation safety procedures, including shielding patients, techs, and visitors.
  • Correctly uses monitoring devices and complies with room technique.
  • Demonstrates proper preparation and use of contrast media (oral, IV, lower GI, retrograde administration).
• Practices effective communication to enhance teamwork and quality of care:
  • Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and obtain cooperation.
  • Recognizes adverse reactions and responds appropriately through communication and action.
  • Demonstrates age-specific care awareness by adjusting communication complexity for patient age.
• Provides direct or indirect supervision or training for radiologic technology students:
  • Demonstrates radiographic examinations in accordance with school and department policies.
  • Ensures student examinations meet department standards and are of high technical quality.
• Performs additional duties as required, including completing hospital-required education, maintaining licensure and CPR certification, and ensuring regulatory readiness (e.g., Joint Commission, DEQ, CMS, ACR, FDA, MQSA).
• Promptly and courteously answers telephones and receives guests using AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You).

Requirements

• 1-2 years of experience as a radiographer (preferred).
• Graduate of an accredited radiography program or equivalent (required).
• Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field (preferred).

Qualifications

• Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Current Louisiana state license to perform as a radiographer.
• Knowledge of and adherence to HIPAA regulations, including handling medical records, patient information, and billing data.
• Knowledge of and adherence to safety practices, including incident reporting, PPE usage, exposure control, patient identification, and medication handling.

Physical Demands

Light Work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly.
