Radiological/Nuclear Design Engineer
About the role
Pursuant to the Savannah River Site, Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking a Radiological/Nuclear Design Engineer to support design changes affecting shielding, contamination control, radiological monitoring, access control, and dose reduction features in a radioactive processing environment.Responsibilities
- Perform or support radiological design evaluations for shielding, dose, contamination control, and monitoring impacts.
- Review design changes for effects on access control, confinement zones, monitoring locations, and ALARA objectives.
- Coincide with ventilation, structural, I&C, and process engineering to incorporate radiological design requirements.
- Support design reviews, hazards reviews, and readiness activities.
- Recommend design features that improve worker protection and reduce radiological exposure.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Health Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience in nuclear, radiological, or shielding-related engineering work.
- Knowledge of radiation protection and contamination control fundamentals.
- Experience supporting design changes in radiological or nuclear facilities.
- Familiarity with ALARA principles and radiation monitoring systems.
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
Skills
- Strong understanding of radiation protection and contamination control fundamentals.
- Experience in designing and implementing radiation shielding solutions.
- Proficiency in reviewing and coordinating design changes for radiological and nuclear facilities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
