About the Role

As a PRN Staff Radiation Therapist in the Radiation Oncology Department, you will apply ionizing radiation to a diverse population of patients in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. You will operate radiation-producing equipment utilizing radiation safety measures and perform complex, precise technical procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in Quality Control monitoring.
  • Delivers consistent, precise therapy to designated treatment areas.
  • Demonstrates skill in patient assessment, performing procedures, and providing specialty care tailored to patients' ages (adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
  • Documents appropriately in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Assists others and performs additional tasks as needed.
  • Recognizes limitations and seeks assistance when necessary.
  • Reports adverse reactions to the physician immediately and follows policy and procedure for documentation.
  • Educates patients and families on expected side effects, use of blocks, wedges, and other treatment aids.
  • Follows policies and procedures to ensure precise treatment per physician prescription and physicist instructions.
  • Completes all patient set-ups correctly and simulates new patients or new treatment fields according to the physician’s written order in the EMR.
  • Schedules patients appropriately and communicates any changes to patients in advance.
  • Follows proper procedures to ensure safety for self and patients, including assessing patient mobility and managing fall precautions.
  • Wears radiation safety badges at all times and practices universal precautions.
  • Participates in daily warm-up procedures to ensure output is within tolerances.
  • Advises the manager of any discrepancies or material items needing replacement or repair.
  • Participates in on-call rotation and serves as a student clinical instructor for RTT and RTR students.
  • Evaluates and provides feedback to students and the Clinical Advisor.
  • Performs other assigned tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited Radiation Therapy program (required).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Radiation Therapy (required).

Qualifications

  • ARRT Radiation Therapy certification (ARRT-T) (required upon hire).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association (required upon hire).
  • Demonstrates ability to treat and simulate patients.

Schedule

Day shift.
