About the Role
The radiation therapist is an integral part of the radiation oncology treatment team, responsible for the accurate delivery of therapeutic radiation treatments to patients and simulations under the direction of a radiation oncologist. This role requires a thorough understanding of radiation therapy rationale, strong patient assessment skills, and excellent interpersonal communication.
This PRN position is based at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center Franklin, offering a flexible schedule with no weekends or on-call requirements. You will work with advanced Varian TrueBeam technology in a collaborative, patient-focused oncology setting.
Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, accurate, high-quality external beam radiation therapy treatments using Varian TrueBeam technology.
- Verify treatment positioning and imaging according to established protocols.
- Document treatments and patient information within Aria and Epic electronic medical record systems.
- Collaborate with radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, nurses, and other oncology professionals.
- Educate and support patients throughout their treatment experience.
- Maintain the highest standards of patient safety, quality, and compassionate care.
- Demonstrate flexibility to adjust scheduling based on patient volume and clinic needs.
- Administer daily radiation therapy treatments to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients efficiently.
- Maintain records of daily treatments and other required documentation.
- Participate in the orientation and training of new radiation therapists, including treatment-specific procedures and protocols.
- Perform computed tomography (CT) simulation procedures and clinical simulations according to established department protocols.
Requirements
- ARRT Certification in Radiation Therapy.
- Current BLS Certification.
- Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior Radiation Therapy experience.
- Experience with Varian technology, TrueBeam, IGRT, and SGRT (preferred but not required).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable attendance and scheduling flexibility.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a multidisciplinary oncology team.
Experienced therapists returning to practice are encouraged to apply. While this role is not designed for new graduates, candidates with prior experience who may need a brief refresher are welcome.
