Radiation Therapist / PRN

Responsibilities

• Perform treatment and simulation procedures under the supervision of the Chief Radiation Therapist.
• Document simulation set-up and procedure information thoroughly.
• Prepare and administer IV and oral contrast, perform POCT testing for pregnancy, and prepare for IV contrast administration.
• Prepare treatment room and equipment according to prescriptions and simulations, including immobilization devices and treatment devices.
• Explain procedures, answer questions, and reassure patients before and after treatment.
• Transfer patients to treatment tables with care for IVs and catheters.
• Check patient treatment plans and deliver prescribed doses.
• Maintain patient markings, change them as needed, and document treatments.
• Inform physicians of treatment outcomes and adapt treatments based on physician orders.
• Acquire and analyze digital radiographs, perform initial setup checks, and evaluate images for technical quality.
• Operate CT simulation units and supporting equipment, including a power injector, gating, and model construction equipment.
• Assist in special procedures such as HDR, stereotactic radiosurgery, and implants.
• Evaluate images for positioning accuracy and monitor patients during therapy.
• Report significant information to supervisory personnel and interface with the patient's care team.
• Schedule patients for optimal efficiency and patient convenience.
• Report changes in patient conditions or inappropriate responses to treatment to the Radiation Oncologist or Nurse.
• Support the orientation and training of new or transferring staff.
• Assist with maintaining department facilities, equipment, and supplies.
• Report maintenance and repair needs to supervisors.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
• Participate in educational in-services and professional activities.
• Ensure accurate recording of charges for services rendered.
• Perform on-call duties to provide emergency treatments during non-clinic hours.
• Participate in the evaluation of treatment devices and ensure compliance with medical center and regulatory agency standards.
• Complete daily Quality Assurance (QA) processes for CT scanners and linear accelerators.
• Report suboptimal performance of these systems to the Medical Physicist and other designated personnel.

Requirements

• Certificate or degree from an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology program and registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or registry eligibility.
• Less than 3 years' work experience as a radiation therapist if registry eligible, must pass registry exam within 6 months of employment.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
