Radiation Health Physicist - Environmental Remediation

About the role

We’re seeking a Junior Radiation Health Physicist to support projects primarily for our Navy and uranium mining restoration clients, with a broad portfolio including many other clients and projects. This role involves field implementations for radiological assessments and remediation, plan development, data evaluation, desktop research, and document reviews. Projects may be executed under EPA, NRC, Agreement States, USACE, or Tribal Agency authority and include investigations, risk assessments, feasibility studies, engineering analysis, remedial actions, and closures.

Field tasks may include performing surveys and assessments, characterizing radiological materials in various matrices, implementing radiation safety practices, maintaining radiation protection programs, and ensuring regulatory compliance. You may also assist with general environmental field and project tasks, collaborating with project teams to deliver high-quality data and deliverables to clients.

A balance of remote and office work is expected, with preference given to candidates located in California. Fieldwork may typically account for approximately 50% of the time, with occasional periods of heavier travel. Responsibilities

• Conduct radiological assessments and remediation in the field.
• Develop plans, evaluate data, perform desktop research, and review documents.
• Support projects under EPA, NRC, Agreement States, USACE, or Tribal Agency authority, including investigations, risk assessments, feasibility studies, engineering analysis, remedial actions, and closures.
• Perform field surveys and assessments, characterize radiological materials in various matrices, and implement radiation safety practices.
• Maintain radiation protection programs and ensure regulatory compliance during project activities.
• Assist with general environmental field and project tasks, collaborating with teams to deliver high-quality data and deliverables.
• Write clearly, present technical approaches, and justify decisions to support client goals.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Radiation Health Physics or Engineering.
• Experience with environmental and remediation programs.
• Experience with environmental projects evaluating soil, groundwater, surface water, or sediments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with radiological investigations or BRAC closures.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $74,700.00 to $112,000.00. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
