About the Role

Provide support for the Rabies Program Manager and Regional Rabies Prevention Team within the Communicable Disease and Epidemiology Section of Public Health. This role involves statewide operations, coordination of daily reporting and data management, and ensuring compliance with the Rabies Control Act.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily reporting and data management activities of the Rabies Control Program to ensure accurate tracking, appropriate responses, and necessary communication between regional staff, central office, and other partners.
• Serve as a statewide assistant technical advisor, providing guidance and technical assistance to statewide affiliated services and local rabies prevention teams.
• Act as backup to the Rabies Program Manager and assist with staff training.
• Conduct audits of the rabies program, including investigation reports in SCION or agency-approved software, and provide written reports of results.
• Evaluate staff activities to ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures, current regulations, and policy.
• Assist with tracking and fulfilling Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
• Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned, including required travel if requested, and respond as directed during emergencies.

Requirements

• A high school diploma and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health.
• A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering, or a related technical field may substitute for the required work experience.
• Agency additional requirements:
  • An associate degree in a relevant field and two (2) years of experience; or
  • A high school diploma and four (4) years of experience in a relevant field.

• Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
• Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered, subject to approval by the DPH Chief Human Resources Officer or their delegate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Passionate about community health and safety.
• Four (4) years of experience in customer service, environmental health, or a related role.
• Experience as a veterinarian assistant or technician, zookeeper, wildlife technician, kennel technician, or a related role is strongly preferred.
• Bilingual (Spanish speaking).

Schedule

• Hybrid work option may be available after 12 months of employment for approved positions.
• In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, employees may be required to work during emergencies or hazardous weather.
