R&D Controller
Why Do We Need You?
This position is an active business partner and trusted advisor who assists, leads the business MWB, North Star initiatives within the NA Innovative Hub. In this role, you will provide both strategic and tactical guidance to the NA VP of R&D and applicable Department Managers.
Essential Functions
- Cook up and analyze monthly forecasts
- Responsible for the consolidated spend, analysis across the 4 business groups Government projects - dissect financial data, ensuring accuracy, reconciliation of the numbers and procedural compliance.
- Cook up, organize, support any government-related audit of project spend.
- Prepare annual rates and analyze report progress towards budget deliverables, financial performance achievements, trends, identify risks & opportunities to drive improvements.
- Prepares “what-ifs” simulations, recommend course of action, ensure accuracy and integrity of the entity project spend, local balance sheet and off-balance sheet items.
- Coordinate and prepare analysis for the financial cycles (Budget, RF, Long Range Plan) and reporting to Business and Regional leadership, present alternative scenarios with risks and opportunities ; recommend course of action.
- Determine, implement and monitor, in conjunction with leaders, targeted goals for OPEX, CAPEX optimization and growth to ensure alignment of key metrics.
- Actively manage the capital requirement process & forecasting (CIP Aging, Payback).
- Makes sure the expenditure by project (R&D), new product introductions, evaluates risk and expected returns.
- Consults with internal customers to implement relevant data analytics systems.
- Proposes and supports digital transformation to increase standardization and improve infrastructure.
- Enforces ownership and accountability of internal service providers (IT/Purchasing/TIP/GBS) for processes within business scope.
- Puts together with cross-functional teams to drive business results.
- Coaches and develops the finance team members within scope to understand business context, identify opportunities for improvement and take on stretch assignments.
- Consolidates and reports: analyzes spending and evolution vs. forecast, budget commitment and prior year, highlighting the heat map across the region identifying risk and opportunity areas.
- Prepares monthly reporting packages (comments and presentations), attends VP monthly calls.
What Do You Bring?
- Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance from a four-year college or university.
- Master's degree in finance/business development or equivalent experience.
- Self-starting individual and ability to work with limited supervision.
- Strong communication and influence skills to effectively collaborate up, down and transversally in a complex organization.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Balanced Scorecard approach - Proactive & Innovative.
- Collaborative, creative thinking and passion are key attributes.
- Fluent in English.
- Knowledgeable in government contracting (cost principles, invoicing, indirect rate submissions, & audits).
- Ability to travel
