Rogers Group is currently seeking a Quarry Utility Worker for our Jacks Mountain Quarry located in Glade Hill, VA.
Responsibilities
- Safe operation of heavy equipment including skid loaders, heavy duty off-road, earth or rock moving equipment (such as rigid frame/articulated haul units, off-road haul trucks, and/or wheel loaders), and other pieces of heavy equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance such as greasing and clean-up; know basic functions of various types of heavy equipment.
- Pre-shift each equipment that is used every day.
- Able to abide by all company safety guidelines.
- Maintain adequate guarding at and around all pinch points.
- Know the basic functions of each piece of heavy equipment that is being used and job duty that is being performed.
- Knowing proper berm heights and maintaining them as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- At least 1 year experience working in a rock quarry is preferred.
- Some experience with using a cutting torch and welder is preferred.
- Some experience with operating smaller pieces of equipment.
- Ability to operate skid loader and other pieces of heavy equipment.
- Ability to use cutting torch and welder.
- Ability to work well with peers and management in all situations.
- Ability to maintain good time management.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Mechanically inclined.
- Excellent communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination.
- Standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, climbing on equipment, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, climbing on equipment, working at heights up to 350 feet, repetitive motion, and squatting - all for extended periods of time (up to 12 hours).
- Use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required.
- Walk/stand on uneven ground, walkways and catwalks throughout the work day.
- Work a minimum of 50 hours a week and overtime as dictated by production demands.
- Lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Working Conditions
- Outside in all weather conditions: heat, cold, dust, and wet a minimum of 8 hours per day.
- Work in high noise level areas while wearing proper PPE.
- Exposure to dust, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, etc.
Pay and Benefits
Wages starting at $18.00/hr. for entry level candidates. Higher pay for skilled operators of heavy equipment with quarry and mining experience. Overtime available and extensive medical and retirement benefits.
