Quality Technician II

About the Role

The Quality Technician II assists the Quality Engineers as an analytical interface between Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality on design for manufacture and production issues. This position establishes and documents critical features, collaborates with internal teams and external customers, and interfaces with military and defense customers to achieve collaborative goals.

Responsibilities

• Take lead role as interface on customer issues from company sales channels, including commercial, law enforcement, military, international, and customer support for assigned contracts.
• Analyze failures and assist in developing corrective and preventive actions to respond to customer complaints in a timely manner.
• Participate in creating and updating quality assurance inspection instructions and data sheets, and assist in measurement activities.
• Assist Quality Management and Quality Engineers in establishing, implementing, and maintaining the quality management system.
• Interface with Engineering and Operations to ensure New Product Introductions comply with approved data and testing, including maintaining appropriate records.
• Maintain product line-specific quality records and submit them to customers as required by contract.
• Conduct measurements using basic inspection tools and perform functional and visual inspections of SIG SAUER products.
• Use analytical thinking and collaborate with Inspectors and Engineers for data collection, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis while maintaining workplace organization and safety.
• Assist in facilitating and performing acceptance testing, documenting all actions per contract specifications, and serve as a back-up subject matter expert during customer acceptances.
• Work with Supplier Quality Engineers, Quality Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and key suppliers to analyze and improve measurement systems and process capability for assigned governmental contracts.
• Support Quality Technician III’s with training others.
• Participate in engineering root cause and troubleshooting processes and PPI projects.
• Engage in and actively volunteer for Continuous Improvement projects and tasks.
• Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
• Follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
• Regular on-site attendance and punctuality are required.
• May be required to work in other functional areas or facilities depending on business needs.
• May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent; preferably an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
• 2+ years of experience in one or more quality or inspection fields.
• PPI Certification.
• Familiarity with drawing and print reading, basic Quality concepts, and mechanical design document interpretation.
• Excellent computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and basic working familiarity with fundamental data analysis techniques and Oracle EBS.
• Fundamental technical and mechanical aptitude with basic optical, electrical, and mechanical test instruments and techniques, as well as strong aptitude with hand tools and small power tools.
• Knowledge of US Government Military Standards and practices (e.g., FARs, DFARs) related to quality planning, first article, and conformance inspections.
• Ability to travel to locations as needed, including traveling with a Government Representative or without supervision, and potentially with a Level I Technician.
• Ability to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information verbally and in written form.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, suppliers, management, and fellow employees.
• Able to complete most tasks ahead of time and perform a minimum of two tasks simultaneously.

Working Conditions

• Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
• Work is primarily standing (90%+ of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
• Shifts may be 8, 10, or 12 hours long.
• Exposure to a typical manufacturing environment with frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing.
• Frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
• Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently (minimum 50% of the shift), and undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
• Proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
• Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where mandated.
• Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
