Quality Supervisor

About the role

The Quality Supervisor is responsible for assuring the successful development and deployment of quality processes and procedures that translate into producing quality products and services, complying with specifications and requirements. This position works with CMP Quality Inspectors and plays a vital role in communicating findings and ensuring all quality processes are supported.

Responsibilities

• Learn specific customer requirements regarding quality expectations on their products and develop the Quality Plans required to meet those expectations.
• Interact with customers at strategic points in the development and execution of assigned projects, including frequent interactions to review issues and follow-ups, periodic visits to customers, and hosting customers at CMP.
• Support and instruct (training, work scheduling, communication) CMP Quality Inspectors to execute the required quality functions in the manufacturing environment.
• Organize Material Review Boards (MRBs) both internally and externally to promptly address any found quality issues.
• Coordinate, organize, and submit to customers any required Quality documentation (PPAPs, FAIs, certificates of compliance, inspection reports, calibration records).
• Perform process audits to ensure manufacturing and quality personnel follow required work instructions (e.g., VKS Learning System).
• Oversee measuring instruments used by Quality and Production to inspect product efficiently and effectively.
• Manage and bring to completion customer and supplier corrective action requests.
• Work with team members to institute continuous improvement via corrective and preventive actions.
• Provide support, training, and communication to production personnel on quality issues.
• Initiate and support 5S and good housekeeping practices throughout the facility.
• Design effective gages to help inspection functions be efficient (e.g., Go/No-go gages to check CTF features versus using measuring instruments).
• Impart knowledge and training throughout the facility on customer expectations, drawing reading, measurement techniques, and tolerancing.

Requirements

• Possess a strong knowledge and genuine interest in the quality environment.
• Able to lead and support a team of Quality Inspectors.
• Familiar with and experienced in a mechanical fabrication environment.
• Excellent blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
• Good understanding of GD&T (preferred).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with good computer and typing skills.
• Ability to use a wide range of precision measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, height gages, gage blocks, thread gages, pin gages, etc.).
• Proficient with geometry and trigonometry (machine shop math).
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to learn quickly, retain, and apply knowledge.
• Strong analysis and troubleshooting/problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
• Must be a self-starter, detail- and results-oriented, energetic, and proactive.
• Flexible (tasks and work schedule) and able to adapt to changing priorities and requirements.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Willing to travel periodically to customers, suppliers, and other CMP facilities.
• College/University degree in Mechanical Engineering/Technologist/Technician is preferred. Minimum educational requirement is a High School/GED diploma.
• Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a mechanical field involving knowledge in machining, sheet metal, welding, spot welding, metal blending, painting and powder coating, plating, and assembly of steel, stainless steel, and aluminum products.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position works in a manufacturing setting with exposure to heavy equipment, machinery, and related noise levels. The role requires frequent walking, standing, bending, squatting, and continuous movement throughout the shift. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
