About the Role

The function of the Casting Quality Technician is to ensure K3 Casting parts and processes are audited and documented for Customer and Kamtek Casting, meeting all documented customer expectations. The Quality Technician will approve or reject K3 Casting team/lines for production and support plant needs as necessary. Responsibilities include safety, quality, part audits, system audits, customer cost, and productivity. Findings and actions taken regarding any concerns must be reported to the Production Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Follow and enforce all plant safety rules and policies.
  • Understand and promote Magna’s philosophies and Employee’s Charter.
  • Make decisions on findings to determine if parts are acceptable to the Customer, supporting Customer Specific Standards.
  • Perform Incoming Inspection Testing on Ingot Shipments (Chemistry Spectrograph) and report results to Quality Leadership.
  • Perform Metal Chemistry and Density Testing and material pulls (Spectrograph and Density Scale).
  • Perform X-Ray Testing (Radiograph).
  • Perform Blister Test (X-Ray, Blister Oven, Heat Treat part review).
  • Perform Sample Prep for Mechanical Properties (Prepare parts for Heat Treat, Collect Parts from Heat treat trees, Mark up, Cut, CNC Mill, Identify test pieces for Testing).
  • Perform all Mechanical Property tests as follows:
    • Tensile Test daily each shift
    • Bend Test and Punch Rivet daily each shift (Ductile Test)
    • Microscopic review of MP Failures for Assignable Causes
    • Thread Test Weekly on shift rotation 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (Review Schedule)
    • Brinell Hardness upon request
    • Optical Profilometer Weekly on shift rotation 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (Review Schedule)
  • Report out and escalate any Non-Conforming condition found during testing.
  • Perform required re-testing identified and issue Quality Alert when necessary.
  • Pass down to communicate shift concerns.
  • Interface with engineering and quality leadership to resolve quality concerns.
  • Customer/Vendor travel for rework/sort etc., or otherwise directed by leadership.
  • Maintain Quality alert folders and concern matrix using Kamtek Manufacturing System.
  • Promote good housekeeping daily (5S).
  • Perform other duties as required (Assist auditors).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of precision measuring tools including tape measures, scales, vernier calipers, etc.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook Express.
  • PDCA/8D/5 why knowledge a plus.
