About the Role
The Quality Control Technician – Construction performs field audits, inspections, and quality checks on aerial and underground construction projects to ensure compliance with company standards, client specifications, safety regulations, and industry best practices. This role supports quality assurance by identifying deficiencies, documenting findings, and promoting continuous improvement in construction workmanship and operational performance.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate completed construction work against client specifications, engineering designs, company standards, and safety requirements.
- Identify defects, workmanship issues, and compliance gaps, and accurately document findings through reports and photo validation.
- Verify proper installation techniques for aerial and underground telecommunications infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, NESC standards, utility requirements, and company safety policies.
- Review construction practices related to pole attachments, grounding/bonding, splicing enclosures, handholes, pedestals, and restoration quality.
- Provide real-time feedback and coaching to field crews, subcontractors, and supervisors regarding quality expectations and corrective actions.
- Monitor adherence to project scope, build specifications, timelines, and customer requirements.
- Complete audit reports, inspection documentation, and quality tracking using company systems and software platforms.
- Identify recurring quality trends and support retraining and process improvement initiatives.
- Participate in quality improvement efforts, standardization initiatives, and operational reviews.
- Coordinate with construction management, engineering, and field leadership to resolve quality concerns and ensure corrective action completion.

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 2–4 years of experience in telecommunications construction, utility construction, or outside plant (OSP) field operations.
- Exposure to aerial and underground telecom construction environments.
- Familiarity with fiber and coax construction standards and installation practices.
- Experience with directional boring, trenching, conduit placement, and restoration activities.
- Knowledge of pole line construction, strand and lash work, grounding, and utility coordination.
- Understanding of quality assurance processes, inspections, and audit procedures.
- Experience interacting with field crews, subcontractors, supervisors, and customers in active construction environments.
