About the role

The Quality Control Technician supports consistent product quality and safety on the production floor of a food manufacturing facility. This role performs routine and specialized quality checks, conducts line audits, completes basic laboratory tests, and accurately documents all results.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality control testing on the production floor, including metal detection checks, leak tests, percentage tests, and other in-process inspections.
  • Conduct hourly line audits on each production line, including first-piece, in-process, and final inspections and quality control tests.
  • Perform calculations to determine percentages of materials and total ounces to verify product specifications and formulations.
  • Complete basic automated testing for key product attributes such as moisture, salt, and fat content.
  • Accurately document daily production and testing data in both paper and computer systems, ensuring records are complete, legible, and organized.
  • Work closely with production personnel on a daily basis to perform quality control checks and help identify, communicate, and correct errors or deviations from standards.
  • Follow established quality control and food quality processes, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and HACCP procedures, to maintain product safety and consistency.
  • Support cross-training efforts by learning and performing a variety of tasks within the quality department, including both lab-based and floor-based quality activities as needed.

Requirements

  • Understanding of quality control processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of food quality processes and standards, including practical application in a production setting.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as they relate to food production and quality control.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations using a calculator, including percentage calculations.
  • At least 1 year of food quality control experience, including experience with HACCP.
  • High school diploma, HSED, or GED.
  • Ability to perform routine quality checks such as line audits, percentage checks, and basic QC tests accurately and consistently.
  • Ability to use computer systems for data entry and documentation of testing and production information.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in both testing and documentation.

Skills

  • Experience with quality assurance or quality control in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with line audit procedures and documenting quality findings.
  • Comfort working with automated testing equipment for moisture, salt, and fat analysis.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with production personnel and other team members.
  • Willingness to be cross-trained in all aspects of the quality department and to perform a variety of quality tasks as needed.

Work Environment

This role is based in a smaller food manufacturing company that produces high volumes of product for major retail customers and is actively growing by adding new large accounts. The work is performed in a production and lab environment where the technician spends time both on the production floor and in the quality lab, depending on daily needs. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work during the busy season.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41,600.00 - $45,760.00/yr. The employer provides a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision coverage, and a $1,500 sign on bonus that is paid incrementally.

Schedule

The schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work during the busy season. This is a fully onsite position in WAUKESHA, WI.
