About the role
This is a 6-month temporary, part-time position located at 5262 Pirrone Ct, Salida, CA 95368 USA. The incumbent develops, maintains, and communicates laboratory quality control systems by ensuring that laboratory procedures are performed within specified quality guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Organize, prepare and maintain documentation of laboratory quality control efforts required for audits.
- Complete quality control tasks such as pH, total residual chlorine, inhibitory residues, water suitability and others to ensure the laboratory complies with Standard Operating Procedures and applicable state certification criteria.
- Track laboratory split sample performance and ensure that split sample results are submitted to appropriate parties as required.
- Perform microbiological and chemistry analysis on food samples according to the specifications of the client.
- Serve as a liaison between chemistry, microbiology and quality assurance departments.
- Inform and train laboratory personnel on quality control systems, correct media preparation, and proper analysis procedures.
- Ensure that media and materials are prepared for the next testing sequence.
- Set up equipment and materials needed for analysis. Ensure that equipment is correctly calibrated and maintained.
- In conjunction with the Quality Manager, Operations Manager, or Lab Director, cease specific analyses when evidence indicates the process is not in control and the quality of results is compromised.
- Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) required to complete job responsibilities.
- Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process.
- Initiate action to prevent or minimize departures from the quality system or test procedures, including addressing resource needs for client turn-around time, overtime limits, employee turnover, and work stoppage.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Requirements
- General knowledge of microbiology or chemistry, typically obtained from a related degree or job experience, to analyze and interpret quality control data accurately.
- Basic knowledge of food science to analyze the microbiological or chemical content of food samples.
- Broad knowledge of laboratory procedures and policies to develop and maintain quality control systems and employee training programs.
- General knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to ensure accuracy of client data.
- Proficiency with personal computer software and basic data entry skills to generate reports and calculate quality control results.
- Physical dexterity to prepare plates for sample analysis.
- Strong analytical abilities to troubleshoot problems and ensure accurate completion of analysis procedures.
- Developed interpersonal skills to build interdepartmental relationships and foster a quality-focused culture.
- Planning skills to ensure timely completion of analysis tasks.
- Oral and written communication skills to write reports and collaborate with laboratory personnel on quality issues.
Work Environment
- Works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control.
- Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials; safety equipment such as gloves, laboratory coat, and eyeglasses may be required.
- Daily use of an autoclave to complete the analysis process.
- Continuous lifting of analysis materials weighing between 10-50 pounds.
- Extended time spent in a standing position.
- Able to detect slight variations in shades of colors.
Pay
$21.50 - $24.50 hourly USD
