Quality Control Inspector

About the role

The Quality Control Inspector will comprehend specifications to determine testing and inspection procedures, read dials and displays, compare results with specifications, and record test and inspection data. The role involves conferring with engineers, technicians, and production personnel, performing dimensional checks, and visual verifications of raw materials, hardware, fabricated and machined parts, and assemblies. The candidate must document non-conformance reports and work with minimal instruction and supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform 1st piece, in-process, and final inspection on materials, products, and assemblies.
• Read drawings, comprehend specifications and tolerances, use dial indicators and digital gages, compare results with specifications, and record test data.
• Confer with engineers, technicians, and production personnel as necessary.
• Perform dimensional checks and visual verifications of fabricated and machined parts to acceptance criteria.
• Use measurement, test equipment, and functional gages to determine if product meets all stated requirements.
• Validate the quality of machined and fabricated parts and assemblies in terms of dimensional accuracy and visual verification according to acceptance criteria.
• Review data supplied with material and parts to acceptance criteria, such as dimensional reports, traceability reports, and certificates of conformity.
• Apply a range of inspection techniques and interpret standards autonomously.
• Display competent professional communication and interpersonal skills when exchanging information with peers and supervisors.
• Ensure in-date calibrated measuring equipment is used for performing inspections.
• Fill out nonconforming material reports and other required records of inspection and tests.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3 - 5 years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection with programming experience.
• General mechanical inspection with calipers, micrometers, etc.
• Geometric tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
• MS Office (Word, Excel, Email).
• Blueprint reading skills.
• Experience working directly with fabrication and machinists’ craftspeople.
• Knowledge of basic technical mathematics; inspection, measuring, and test equipment; materials and processes; inspection technology; and basic statistics.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements.
• Ability to obtain a government security clearance.

Skills

• Working knowledge of PCDMIS software and programming (desired).
• Working knowledge of Inspection Arms (Romer or similar) (desired).
• Working knowledge of Laser Tracker Systems (Leica or similar) (desired).

Working Conditions

This position is considered SHOP WORK with the following characteristics:

• Generally work performed indoors (80%) and occasional outdoors (20%).
• Requires a great deal of manual dexterity, such as working with measuring and testing equipment.
• Frequently working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
• When outdoors, humidity is frequently above 90%.
• Noise is over 85 decibels.
• Light is intense/glare.
• Occasional exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.
• Frequent exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases.
• Includes exposure to contaminants.
• Requires working in very hot (above 90°F) or very cold (below 32°F) temperatures.
• Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
• Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people.
• Requires working indoors in non-controlled environmental conditions.

Schedule

• Mon - Thurs, 4:30am to 3pm.
• This position is on-site with no allowance for hybrid or remote work.

Pay

The hourly range for this position is $33.22 - $49.86.
