QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTOR

About the role

Quality control inspectors perform inspections of fabricated structural steel, including periodic and continuous inspection of welding, weld fit-up, dimensional inspection of cuts, copes, camber, and holes on holes-only beams, plain material, angles, and ship-loose pieces, both in-process and final, to ensure pieces meet drawing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Use detailed drawings for information to inspect parts
• Record daily inspections on Q.C. Travelers
• Perform paint thickness inspections
• Work with Senior Inspector and Shop Quality Manager to resolve daily issues
• Help maintain flow of work through the shop
• Perform inspection of simple and complex parts using applicable drawings
• Work with other departments
• Read blueprints and fabrication details
• Read and understand welding symbols
• Perform weld inspections
• Write legibly using various markers
• Move parts with cranes and on carts
• Operate a forklift
• Read and use tape measures, squares, and other measuring devices
• Work within tolerances
• Ask questions when unsure
• Effectively complete required documentation
• Work well with others
• Adjust to multiple demands, shifting work priorities, and change
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Good English skills—able to speak, read, and understand
• Good verbal and written communication skills (both in the quality department and production team)
• CAWI certification
• 3-5 years experience in the structural steel industry
• 3-5 years experience working from blueprints
• Prior experience in Quality Control is desired
• Level 1 training in UT (Ultrasonic Testing)
• Knowledge of CT&C Fabrications QM and QC procedures
• Knowledge of applicable codes and standards
• Skill in completing required documentation
• Skill in organizing drawings and information
• Ability to learn new procedures
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings drawn in AutoCAD (or similar software)
• High School diploma or equivalent is preferred
• Familiarity with MBS (Material Breakdown Sheets) and SDS (Shop Drawings/Safety Data Sheets)
