Quality Assurance Team Leader, Overnight, Deli - Lakeland

About the Role

Team Leaders in Quality Assurance (QA) serve as a critical resource to associates and managers within Publix manufacturing facilities. This role involves on-the-floor participation with production associates, covering for vacations and unplanned absences, and assuming the responsibilities of the Department Manager in their absence. Team Leaders also plan and conduct job skill training for all associates and report to the Quality Assurance Department Manager.

Responsibilities

• HACCP Plan development, monitoring, and data verification for all products and processes
• Maintain Food Safety and Quality Programs including SQF, allergens, SSOPs, and other prerequisite programs
• Interaction with regulatory and external auditors (Florida Department of Agriculture, FDA, USDA, and 3rd party auditors), including accompanying auditors and following up on corrective action plans
• Interaction with plant management to assist departments in researching quality-related issues
• Act as the QA department point of contact in the absence of the QA manager
• Monitor and verify QA department responsibilities
• Effectively communicate food safety and quality programs using job instruction training techniques
• Perform tasks in the work area, including:
  • Being an on-the-floor participant with production associates
  • Covering for unplanned absences
  • Scheduling associate labor needs
  • Promoting and enforcing associate quality and food safety standards
  • Verifying maintenance of equipment, preventive maintenance, and work orders
  • Understanding production requirements and executing department needs
  • Maintaining Good Manufacturing Practices within the facility
  • Serving as a role model for plant associates
  • Tracking customer complaints, investigations, and correspondence
  • Leading and driving improvement of plant operations through continuous improvement projects
  • Studying and analyzing KPIs and data to apply to departmental improvement
  • Planning and responding to out-of-the-ordinary events
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or its equivalent
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Ability to lift in excess of 50 pounds, extended walking/standing (up to 14 hours a day), bending, squatting, and climbing ladders
• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
• Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
• Ability to demonstrate safe working habits
• Ability to learn and perform all positions
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Understanding of highly complex industrial/manufacturing equipment
• Ability to work well with others and be a team player
• Ability to work any shift, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours
• Willingness to assist other team members in other areas
• Ability to perform steady and productive work for an extended period of time
• Ability to work efficiently with little or no supervision
• Possess basic math skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Obvious enthusiasm, initiative, and pride in work

Preferred Qualifications

• Some college coursework in Business, Engineering, and/or Food Science
• Knowledge of laboratory (chemical and microbiological) and ability to be a resource to all departments
• Knowledge of food safety and regulatory compliance and ability to provide assistance to all departments
• Knowledge of HACCP and SSOP Programs and ability to train all associates in this area
• Department experience related to the position
• Knowledge of general Publix and Manufacturing policies and procedures
