Job Duties And Responsibilities

Aid the quality manager in developing, implementing, and maintaining food safety and quality programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, corporate standards, and customer expectations.

Perform required quality record reviews such as laboratory documentation, CCP, PC, and other documentation.

Create, review, and implement quality assurance procedures.

Propose modifications or upgrades to testing procedures or equipment.

Coordinate procurement of items necessary for the lab.

Collaborate with operations to oversee pathogen environmental monitoring (PEM) program, including managing swabbing programs, conducting investigations, and implementing corrective actions and mitigations.

Offer regular training, instruction, and guidance to employees on matters of food safety, quality, and compliance.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives and work with all facility functions to address persistent challenges while supporting the implementation of new procedures or processes.

Support customers, regulators, and third-party quality and food safety audits.

Investigate, resolve, and implement remedies for quality issues and customer complaints.

Maintain certifications such as SQF, Kosher, Halal, and Organic.

Supervise hourly employees' activities to meet or exceed established standards and specifications.

Ensure all process, product, or infrastructure changes are communicated to employees promptly.

Identify and retain high-performing personnel through proper selection, training, and setting expectations.

Foster a positive and effective work culture with direct reports.

Create and implement material standards with appropriate control and inspection procedures to enhance product quality and minimize downtime.

Maintain close oversight of inspection/testing procedures and corresponding results to guarantee finished products are safe and meet customer expectations.

Analyze quality data to evaluate product performance and utilize statistical process control (SPC) tools to identify and address unfavorable trends.

Perform supervisory tasks such as administering employee promotions and transfers, reviewing and editing timekeeping, completing performance evaluations, mentoring, training, and coaching employees.

Comply with all DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and adhere to all corporate regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements.

Education And Experience

Undergraduate degree in food science, biological sciences, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

At least 2 to 5 years of quality assurance, manufacturing, or related experience, preferably in a food, beverage, or similar facility.

Demonstrated leadership attributes or team leadership experience; supervisor experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Knowledge of both laboratory and plant current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems.

Skills in leadership and coaching.

Ability to perform basic arithmetic as needed.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Strong teamwork and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to handle challenging or conflict situations with tact and professionalism.
