Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop QA Technicians through training, goal setting, performance management, problem-solving, task delegation, and timecard approvals.
- Foster a collaborative, quality-driven culture that emphasizes accountability, first-time accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor and verify the implementation and effectiveness of Food Safety & Quality (FS&Q) systems and ensure accountability for all quality assurance activities.
- Drive continuous improvement through data analysis, trend identification, and process enhancements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Product Evaluation & Disposition
- Oversee daily FS&Q inspections, verify compliance with product specifications, and manage product hold procedures.
- Determine timely product disposition decisions based on quality evaluations.
- Ensure material traceability and oversee the site's equipment calibration program.
Food Safety & Quality Programs / Operational Support
- Support and facilitate internal and external audits by maintaining compliance records, coordinating plant tours, and addressing food safety and quality inquiries.
- Conduct internal audits, manage CAPA activities, and verify the effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Investigate customer complaints and non-conformances, identify root causes, and ensure timely implementation and closure of corrective actions.
- Support R&D, Product & Process Development (PNP), and cross-functional initiatives while maintaining and improving QA procedures and SOPs.
GMP, Sanitation & Regulatory Programs
- Oversee environmental monitoring, utility testing, and GMP compliance programs.
- Conduct routine GMP, sanitation, pest control, and food safety inspections with cross-functional leaders, ensuring timely corrective actions.
- Serve as the primary liaison for third-party pest control, chemical suppliers, and microbiological laboratories.
- Manage sanitation, chemical control, and glass & brittle plastic programs to ensure regulatory compliance and food safety.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in food science, chemistry, microbiology, life sciences or equivalent preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory work experience in Quality Assurance for a food manufacturing or related area.
- Skills: Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, Continuous improvement mindset, Ability to multitask and have excellent time management skills, Have flexibility when new priorities arise and have a depth of knowledge in quality, Effective verbal, written, interpersonal and presentation communications skills, Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and systems, Ability to create work documents, identify trends and configuring metrics, Thorough understanding of GMP, SOP’s, FDA regulations, Must work on “process level” and eventually “organizational level.”
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or climb (including stairs/ladders).
- Ability to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a warm and cold environment.
- Physical dexterity necessary to handle supplies, machine parts and tools.
