Job Summary
In this role, you will perform tasks involved in the formation and administration of purchase orders. You will prepare bidders' lists, qualify bidders, form bid packages, issue bid requests, participate in negotiations, recommend commitments, secure approvals, communicate with suppliers and monitor supplier performance. Your efforts are to ensure potential and current suppliers comply with purchase order requirements and provide the required service and results to meet project needs.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
Major Responsibilities
- Communicates with Engineering to assist and/or guide them in the preparation of material requisitions for the procurement of materials and equipment and to achieve the understanding needed to process these requisitions
- Forms bid packages and issues bid requests; coordinates bidders' questions; and receives bidder proposals
- Prepares Commercial Bid Summary and recommendations to award
- Prepares and commits purchase orders within their authority
- Communicates with suppliers and personnel within Bechtel to establish clear definition of requirements and to assure supplier performance to the obligations within the purchase order
- Identifies, defines, and secures agreement regarding purchase order changes
Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a University Hire with 1-2 years of experience or 5-6 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Proficiency and experience in the formation and administration of purchase orders
- Proficiency in all phases of procurement including knowledge of and skill in communicating effectively with suppliers, bidder prequalification, preparation of bidders' lists, compilation of bid requests, knowledge of Uniform Commercial Code or applicable commercial legislation, negotiation of contracted terms and conditions, and award of commitments
- Proficiency in the administration of commitments, monitoring supplier performance, back-charge procedures and the resolution of claims and disputes
- Good understanding of equipment and material fabrication steps and methods
- Skilled in working with, and communicating effectively both orally and in writing with other project functional groups
- Capable of providing early warning to Project Management of supplier deficiencies or schedule slippage
- Capable of interpreting schedules to ensure they are realistic, that required activities occur on time, and that interface between activities is maintained
