Pulmonary Function Specialist

Fairview is seeking a Pulmonary Function Specialist to join our team at M Health Fairview Clinics & Surgery Center in Minneapolis. This role provides high-quality pulmonary diagnostic care and supports departmental operations at the Clinics & Surgery Center, with occasional coverage at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital and M Health Fairview Clinics and Surgery Center - Maple Grove.

About the role

This is a 0.75 FTE position (60 hours per two-week pay period) with a predictable schedule of Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The role involves performing routine and advanced pulmonary function testing, monitoring workflow, and coordinating daily operations of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Assess data and patient needs, identifying expected outcomes.
• Obtain patient vitals including blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate.
• Analyze and respond to identified needs and potential risks.
• Involve the patient, family, and healthcare team in gathering data.
• Identify outcomes that are age-appropriate, culturally appropriate, realistic, and attainable.
• Validate outcomes with the patient, family, and healthcare team.
• Document data and identified outcomes.
• Perform all PFT testing, including:
  • Flow Volume Loop
  • Lung Volume (Plethysmograph)
  • Diffusion Capacity (Single Breath)
  • Bronchodilator Response
  • Methacholine Challenge
  • Exercise Challenge
• Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
• Appraise the validity of test orders and results.
• Follow established practices and suggest additional PFT testing to physicians as needed.
• Adhere to ATS Guidelines for Pulmonary Function Tests.
• Evaluate the validity of testing based on calibration and patient efforts.
• Verify equipment is in proper working condition.
• Perform daily calibration of plethysmograph and metabolic cart.
• Assess calibration to ensure accurate patient testing.
• Perform troubleshooting repairs of both software and hardware problems.
• Contact factory service personnel for equipment troubleshooting over the phone.
• Coordinate equipment repairs with bio-medical engineering.

Requirements

• At least 62 semester hours in college, including college credit-level courses in biology and mathematics.
• CPFT or RPFT certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care within 1 year of hire.
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association or Red Cross) certification within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• A.A./A.S. in Respiratory Care from a JRCRTE-accredited program.
• 1 year of experience performing pulmonary function testing in a healthcare environment.
• Respiratory Care License in the State of Minnesota.

Pay

An individual's pay rate within the posted range may be determined by various factors, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, the organization prioritizes pay equity and considers internal team equity when making any offer. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical. If eligible, a sign-on bonus may be offered based on the approved program at the time of the offer.
