Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform manual labor in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, parking lots, and rights-of-way.
- Perform asphalt and concrete work, including cutting, prepping, mixing, pouring, and finishing materials.
- Operate hand tools and light-to-medium equipment such as mowers, tractors, jackhammers, trenchers, trailers, and other small-engine tools.
- Operate heavy equipment as assigned and trained, in support of maintenance projects.
- Clean and maintain stormwater drainage structures, culverts, gutters, catch basins, and swales.
- Conduct routine grounds and right-of-way maintenance including mowing, edging, blowing, trimming, and removal of vegetation.
- Empty trash containers and maintain public areas, including beach access points.
- Install, repair, and replace traffic, regulatory, and informational signage.
- Set up and remove traffic control devices and act as a flagger in accordance with FDOT Temporary Traffic Control standards.
- Assist with removal of storm debris and participate in emergency response operations, including hurricanes.
- Assist in preparation and breakdown for City events as needed.
- Respond to after-hours or emergency call-outs as assigned.
- Maintain basic records, daily work logs, and documentation of materials and equipment used.
- Assist Stormwater Maintenance crews and other City departments when assigned.
Education And Experience
- One (1) year of experience in outdoor labor, public works, streets or sidewalk maintenance, landscaping, construction, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Licenses and/or Certificates
- Must possess a valid Driver License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- FDOT Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) certification required within 12 months of hire.
- Stormwater Operator Level 1 certification required within 12 months of hire.
- FDEP Stormwater Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in street, sidewalk, stormwater, and grounds maintenance.
- Knowledge of safe work practices and occupational hazards related to public works operations.
- Skilled in the safe operation and basic preventive maintenance of equipment required for assigned tasks.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods under varying weather conditions.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with coworkers and the public.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects up to 50 lbs.
Working Conditions
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, and manual labor.
- Ability to operate tools and equipment requiring physical strength and dexterity.
- Ability to work in extreme heat, humidity, rain, or other outdoor conditions.
