Public Work Operator (Streets)

About the role

The City of Cortez is hiring an Operator (Streets) to support essential public works services across Cortez. This entry-level, full-time onsite role helps keep community infrastructure safe, functional, and ready for daily use.

Responsibilities

• Routine, semi-skilled work supporting construction, maintenance, and repair activities for streets and related public works systems.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Good physical condition and ability to perform manual tasks for extended periods
• Ability to learn operation and basic maintenance of hand construction equipment
• Ability to learn operation of single-axle trucks and equipment such as an air compressor, boring machine, tapping machine, and backhoe
• Valid Colorado driver’s license; ability to obtain a CDL within three months
• Availability to be on call for emergencies

• Available to work Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m., with occasional on-call responses for emergencies

Pay

Salary: $21.43 - $22.73 per hour
