About the role

This position is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship. The Public Services Outreach Librarian III organizes and manages the library’s outreach initiatives, collaborating with all internal departments to deliver professional, high-quality programs and services directly to the Nampa community. The role leads daily bookmobile operations and participates in outreach activities that may occur during evenings and Saturdays.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver outreach services to the Nampa community and serve as an ambassador for the library.
  • Maintain a valid Idaho driver’s license with a clean record.
  • Schedule and coordinate public service programs, supplies, and resources with the Public Service Manager.
  • Guide and encourage public service staff with outreach responsibilities, including training and professional development.
  • Oversee daily operations of the bookmobile and direct staff as needed.
  • Provide reference and reader’s advisory services to patrons.
  • Handle circulation functions such as checking materials in and out, registering new patrons, and processing holds.
  • Coordinate, prepare, and deliver outreach services and programming for schools, early literacy, community engagement, underserved populations, and senior facilities.
  • Demonstrate strong public speaking and program presentation skills to engage adults and children.
  • Ensure the safety of the public and staff in and around the bookmobile.
  • Manage bookmobile technology in coordination with the Public Technology Manager and assist patrons as needed.
  • Supervise and train outreach staff while on the bookmobile.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly bookmobile environment.
  • Manage the bookmobile collection, including changing out materials to match daily stops.
  • Initiate library cards and assist with patron accounts.
  • Maintain and report bookmobile statistics for performance assessment.
  • Maintain records related to the bookmobile’s maintenance and fueling.
  • Create schedules and routes for the bookmobile in cooperation with relevant stakeholders.
  • Assess community needs regularly to inform and adapt outreach programs and services.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local organizations, schools, and community groups to promote outreach efforts.
  • Evaluate outreach programs and services through feedback collection and analysis.
  • Identify funding opportunities and assist with grant proposals to support outreach initiatives and bookmobile operations.
  • Plan and coordinate special events or initiatives to promote the bookmobile and its services.
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to support outreach activities and programs.
  • Develop educational materials and resources for outreach programs.
  • Manage social media communications related to outreach activities and the bookmobile.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) or Information Science (MLIS) required, or the ability to obtain an MLS/MLIS within one year of hire.
  • 4+ years of experience in libraries or education, including some supervisory experience.

  • Ability to prepare clear and accurate reports with findings and recommendations.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks accurately and efficiently under time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to perform physical duties, including lifting, pushing heavy materials, bending, and kneeling.
  • Effective problem-solving and sound judgment in various situations.
  • Demonstrated integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in assigned tasks.

Pay

$23.49 – $30.49 per hour (DOE)

Schedule

Outreach activities may occur during various days and times, including evenings and Saturdays; a flexible work schedule is required to accommodate this variability.
