Hiring Agency Justice & Public Safety Cabinet | Kentucky State Police Location 11 State Police Road London, KY 40741 USA Description Kentucky State Police is the premier, full-service law enforcement agency in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. With the highest level of professionalism and integrity the Kentucky State Police works to prevent, reduce, and deter crime and the fear of crime; enhance highway safety through education and enforcement; protect and safeguard individual rights; and provide leadership, training, technical, and operational support to the criminal justice community. The Public Safety Telecommunication Manager is an integral part of the Kentucky State Police Radio Room. In addition to performing the duties of a Telecommunicator this individual oversees all activities within the radio room, trains and equips new telecommunicators with the skills and knowledge to be effective and efficient in their daily responsibilities and implements changes necessary to ensure Trooper safety. Due to the nature of 24-hour operations the applicant must be willing to work a flexible shift. Required to be currently certified as a Telecommunicator by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC) and be currently certified as a Law Information Network of Kentucky (LINK)/National Crime Information Center (NCIC) operator. Shall not have been convicted of a felony or other crimes pursuant to KRS 15.540. Maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Key Responsibilities Supervise a shift of telecommunicators in the preparation, sending, and receiving of law enforcement and emergency management personnel communications Train new telecommunicators on operations, policy, procedures, and equipment Maintain filing system of communication records as required by Kentucky State Police and the Federal Communication Commission Oversee training of personnel when policy, procedure or federal requirements changes occur Produce and send communications via Law Enforcement Teletype system Prepare and distribute instructional materials and manuals Serve as the acting Radio Room supervisor in the absence of the supervisor Perform the duties of a Public Telecommunicator as the workload dictates Approve subordinates time and complete performance evaluations Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Supervisory experience Strong work ethic Multi-tasking Strong written and verbal communication Active listening Perform under pressure Solid judgement If you are interested in a challenging yet rewarding career as a Kentucky State Police Telecommunication Manager, we would love to review your application. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have seven years of experience in the transmission, receiving, and relaying of electronic information for law enforcement, emergency medical, fire, emergency management, military communications, or traffic operations. Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: College will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years. Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional experience in the transmission, receiving and relaying of electronic information for law enforcement, emergency medical, fire, emergency management, military communications or traffic operations will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be currently certified as a Telecommunicator by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC). Must provide documentation of successful Emergency Medical Dispatch Quality Assurance certification within sixty days of employment in this job classification. Must provide documentation of successful certification as a Training Officer through the Kentucky State Police Certified Training Officer program within twelve months of employment in this classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Working Conditions Work is performed in a communications center at a Kentucky State Police Post and under extremely stressful conditions. May be required to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
