About the role

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office is seeking experienced Public Safety Telecommunicators to join our 9-1-1 Communications Center. This full-time position is responsible for receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls for law enforcement, fire, and EMS services throughout Butler County.

Responsibilities

  • Answer 9-1-1 and non-emergency telephone calls; determine the nature and location of the emergency.
  • Dispatch appropriate law enforcement, fire, and EMS units based on established protocols and procedures.
  • Monitor and operate multiple radio channels, computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems, and other communication equipment.
  • Provide pre-arrival medical instructions to callers as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of all calls for service and dispatch activities.
  • Coordinate with other public safety agencies and jurisdictions during mutual-aid incidents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the operations of the Communications Center.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current certification as a Public Safety Telecommunicator in the State of Ohio, or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a public safety telecommunicator or dispatcher in a law enforcement, fire, or EMS agency.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must successfully pass a background investigation, including criminal history and driving record checks.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR certification.

Skills

  • Proficiency in using computer systems, including CAD and mapping software.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic knowledge of law enforcement, fire, and EMS operations and terminology.
