About the role

The Superior Court of Contra Costa County is recruiting for a Family and Investigative Services Manager. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for the day-to-day direct supervision of staff in both the Family Court Services and Probate Investigations Units.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, plan, organize, coordinate the day to day work of each unit and select and supervise subordinate staff;
  • Review and assess court reports prepared by mediators pertaining to custody, visitation, and related issues and probate court investigators in guardianship and conservatorship cases (including guardianship and conservatorship of the estate) and provide feedback and coaching;
  • Assist in creation and implementation of an internship program for mediators;
  • Provide supervision, mentoring and direction for all subordinate staff, including planning and coordinating in-service training;
  • Evaluate performance of Mediators, Court Investigators, Probate Examiners, and Clerical Staff;
  • In collaboration with the Director and the Human Resources Department, handle all applicable personnel matters, including progressive discipline;
  • Evaluate the mediation and investigation programs and recommend procedural and/or operational changes to enhance services and outcomes;
  • Meet regularly with the Director to coordinate and receive general direction for the divisions;
  • Assist with a variety of statistical, narrative and analytical reports in conjunction with required grant reporting on the division’s workload and program review needs;
  • In consultation with the Director, implement procedures governing mediation of child custody and visitation dispute cases and child custody evaluations, probate investigations and probate examiner work in accordance with state law and local rules of court;
  • Represent assigned units in the local community and attend local and state meetings as needed;
  • Provide oversight to ensure proper records maintenance and statistical analyses of cases, including maintaining and archiving completed and closed investigative reports and files; as well as ensuring the automated case management systems and hard copy back-ups are maintained to assure access to case histories and status reports;
  • Ensure the divisions’ compliance with federal, state and local statutes, standards for ethical, professional practices;
  • Depending upon the incumbent’s qualifications, may be assigned to perform Family Court mediations and/or Probate Investigations.

Benefits

  • Three weeks of vacation per year, accrued on a bi-weekly basis;
