About the role

Under general supervision, the Public Safety Response Coordinator performs a variety of complex functions, including entering and accessing real-time information into the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system, operating and monitoring closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems at all BRCC locations, and acting as the point of contact with the general public for emergency situations, accidents, and complaints. The incumbent receives and responds to requests from enforcement officers and agents. Within six months of employment, the incumbent must obtain credentials through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Louisiana State Police Terminal Operator Certification Program to meet certification and recertification requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Response Coordination (40%)
    • Inform officers of complaints requiring investigation and transmit all necessary information to ensure the safety of officers and the BRCC community.
    • Receive and analyze emergency and non-emergency calls for service; prioritize calls.
    • Handle complex calls and respond to general public complaints and inquiries.
    • Receive and transmit messages over two-way radio, telephone, computer equipment, and teletype concerning crimes and police emergencies.
    • Maintain the location of officers and security guards on duty; dispatch officers as necessary to investigate complaints.
    • Alert the nearest officer and relay pertinent information in a factual and concise manner.
    • Coordinate with wreckers, ambulances, and other first responders as needed.
    • Enter all call information into the CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) system.
  • Operate & Monitor CCTV (30%)
    • Review, monitor, and retrieve video footage daily at all BRCC locations.
    • Report outages, triage inoperable views, and burn video footage as needed.
    • Research and analyze discrepancies and burn video footage upon request.
    • Ensure required authorization and documentation is obtained before releasing video footage to the District Attorney (DA) and/or other law enforcement agencies.
    • Communicate with appropriate personnel and departments regarding reviewed video footage and provide reports as needed.
    • Work with supervisors to secure all dates, times, and locations of identified incidents in a timely manner.
    • Provide support for police officers and local law enforcement with timelines.
  • Maintenance (10%)
    • Submit work orders and help desk tickets as needed.
    • Complete spreadsheets when emergency equipment is assessed at BRCC locations.
  • Customer-Service Representative Work (10%)
    • Assist with parking decals and BRCC IDs for students, employees, visitors, and vendors.
  • NCIC & Compliance (5%)
    • Comply with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, college, and departmental policies.
    • Maintain proper record keeping and daily logs of radio and teletype activities; update desk log during communications.
    • Operate computer terminals to obtain vehicle and criminal record information.
    • Check for stolen vehicles, stolen license plates, wanted people, and invalid driver’s licenses through State Police and NCIC computers.
    • Maintain wrecker slips and towing information.
  • Other duties as assigned (5%)

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in criminal justice or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience; or an associate’s degree in criminal justice or a related field in lieu of the required experience; or a high school diploma with four (4) years of relevant experience.

Skills

  • Written and oral communication skills.

  • Proficient working knowledge of computer word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years' experience with public safety, security, NCIC, law enforcement, or communications.
