Public Safety Associate - part-time, .5FTE, first shift

About the role

Public Safety Associate (PSA) is a uniform position responsible for providing support to Public Safety operations at Children’s Wisconsin facilities. Duties include badge access credentialing, greeting and engaging guests, screening visitors, providing wayfinding assistance, reporting suspicious activities, supporting visitors during emergencies, and performing weapon screening to prevent prohibited items from entering Children’s property.

Responsibilities

• Primarily works at Welcome Center stations, badging and screening visitors per visitation policy.
• Determines guests’ destinations and transportation needs, providing precise wayfinding directions.
• Directs visitors to ambulatory clinics, ancillary locations, inpatient areas, EDTC, and amenities on the Milwaukee campus.
• Builds credible relationships with customers by delivering personal attention, demonstrating respect, and maintaining patient confidentiality under HIPAA.
• Performs weapon screening services at designated locations to prevent weapons and prohibited property from entering Children’s property.
• Secures property/evidence as needed and liaises with local law enforcement.
• Maintains a safe and orderly environment during emergencies and routine operations.
• Stays current with Children’s Wisconsin policies, procedures, and department Standards of Work (SOW) through regular review of internal communications.
• Adheres to the Children’s Organizational Code of Ethics and ensures compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and laws.

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent (GED/HSED) required.
• Post-high school coursework in criminal justice or a related field preferred.
• 1+ years of customer service experience required.
• 1+ years of experience as a uniformed security officer in healthcare, public safety, corporate security, law enforcement, or military service preferred.
• 1+ years of experience performing weapon screening preferred.

• Ability to complete all required training and competency processes.
• Basic computer skills, including troubleshooting equipment and systems (e.g., PC software, Microsoft Office, CAD, incident reporting, surveillance systems, EPIC).
• Strong reading and writing skills for report completion and recordkeeping.
• Critical thinking and independent decision-making in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent customer service, prioritization, and conflict resolution skills.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills for interacting with employees, patients, and visitors.
• Ability to collaborate and create innovative solutions with team members.
• Proficiency in using weapon screening technologies.

Qualifications

• BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification (American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council) required within 90 days of hire.
