About the role

The Contra Costa County Library is seeking to fill two part-time positions for Library Literacy Assistant. The incumbents will assist with volunteer recruitment, training, and support activities, provide program information, and promote library literacy programs through various media.

Responsibilities

• Recruit and train volunteers
• Conduct student in-take interviews
• Recommend appropriate methods and materials to tutors
• Maintain records and gather data
• Assist with special events
• Contribute to newsletters
• Oversee the library literacy lab
• Represent library literacy programs at meetings

Requirements

• Ability to relate positively with various multi-cultural communities
• Plan, organize, and work independently
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Establish harmonious working relationships with staff, volunteers, community groups, and representatives

Qualifications

• License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
• Education/Experience: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in education, speech pathology and audiology, psychology, communications, humanities, social science or behavioral science field; or 200 hours of previous tutoring experience in an established literacy program and possession of either 1) 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university or 2) certification as a teacher.

Pay

• Monthly Salary: $3,941 - $5,033
