About the Role
This position provides clinical services for clients requesting a variety of services from the Health Department, with a focus on the following key areas:
- Coordinate and manage activities of the Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program.
- Case manage women with abnormal pap smears collected at the Pitt County Health Department to ensure timely follow-up, referral for diagnostic evaluation, surveillance, and treatment as indicated.
- Case manage and provide referral and follow-up for clients receiving non-program associated health and wellness services, such as tobacco treatment, annual well exams, breast and cervical cancer screenings, employment exams, and acute episodic illness.
Responsibilities
- Apply nursing theory, practice, principles, and techniques in public health and related programs.
- For expanded role positions: obtain health histories and perform physical examinations to identify deviations from normal.
- Coordinate available resources and organizations to meet client needs.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee the work of others.
- Deal tactfully with clients and service providers to maintain effective working relationships.
- Record services rendered accurately and interpret reports and medical instructions.
- Apply principles and practices of public health in daily work.
- Use computer skills for communication, patient record documentation, and accessing information.
Requirements
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the N.C. Board of Nursing.
Qualifications
Expanded Role Positions
- Completion of approximately three months of training (didactic and on-the-job supervision) in the expanded role specialty.
- Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing (including a Public Health Nursing rotation) and two years of Public Health nursing experience; or
- Master’s in Public Health and graduation from a school of professional nursing with two years of professional nursing experience; or
- Graduation from a school of professional nursing and three years of professional nursing experience, including two years of Public Health nursing experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (three months of training can be obtained concurrently with other required experience).
Program Manager, Clinic Coordinator, or Home Health Role
- Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing (including a Public Health Nursing rotation) and two years of Public Health nursing experience; or
- Master’s in Public Health and graduation from a school of professional nursing with two years of professional nursing experience; or
- Graduation from a school of professional nursing and three years of professional nursing experience, including two years of Public Health nursing experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
