About the Role

The Public Health Nurse serves as the local immunization expert and resource for medical practices, schools, childcare providers, and the public in the Newport District Office. This position focuses on conducting quality improvement visits to healthcare providers enrolled in the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program, training them in immunization best practices, and collaborating to increase vaccine coverage rates. Additional duties include oversight of the local district office vaccine program—including vaccine ordering, management, and administration—leading office and community vaccination clinics for individuals with limited access to care, and working with colleagues and community partners to identify and address immunization gaps and disparities.

Environmental Factors

  • Duties primarily performed in a standard office setting; may also occur in clinic settings and client homes.

  • May require working evenings, weekends, and 12-hour shifts.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in nursing and two (2) or more years of professional nursing experience.
  • OR Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • OR College senior in the final semester of a bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) program (graduation must occur prior to hire; continued employment contingent on passing the Nursing Licensure Exam (NCLEX)).
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Vermont or eligibility to practice in Vermont via a multi-state license.
  • Must maintain Vermont licensure or multi-state license as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Background Checks

Candidates must pass applicable background investigations, including Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, DMV checks, and adult and child abuse registry checks, as required for the position.
