Public Health Nurse II - Limited Service
This position is a local immunization expert and resource for medical practices, schools, childcare providers, and the public in the Newport District Office. It is a Limited Service position, open to all State employees and external applicants, authorized for a specific period of time.
About the role
The focus of this position is to conduct quality improvement visits to healthcare providers enrolled in the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program, training them in immunization best practices and working collaboratively to increase vaccine coverage rates. Duties include:
- Oversight of the local district office vaccine program, including vaccine ordering, management, and administration
- Leading office and community vaccination clinics for community members with limited access to care
- Working with colleagues and community partners to identify immunization gaps and disparities
Environmental Factors
- Duties primarily performed in a standard office setting; may also occur in clinic settings and client homes
- Exposure to communicable diseases and other stressful situations may occur
- Private means of transportation is required
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, and 12-hour shifts
Requirements
- Associate's degree in nursing AND five (5) or more years of professional nursing experience, including three (3) or more years in public health or community health nursing*
- OR Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) AND three (3) or more years in public health or community health nursing*
- Possession of, or eligibility for, licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Vermont OR eligible to practice in Vermont via a multi-state license
- Must maintain Vermont licensure or multi-state license as a Registered Nurse as a condition of employment
*Community Health Nursing is defined as school nursing, home health nursing, home visiting nurses, and community nurse health educators.
