Public Finance Associate
This Jobot Job is hosted by Trey Mattson.
About Us
We're a well-established, full-service New Jersey firm with a genuinely different culture. We're not a typical grind-it-out firm — we're a lifestyle practice that believes good lawyers do their best work when they're mentored, supported, and trusted to manage their own time. We have a billable target, but we care far more about quality work and long-term development than about clock-watching. Partners here see it as their job to feed associates work and train them properly, not throw them in the deep end.
Why Join Us
- Real mentorship: You'll learn directly from senior partners who are among the most respected in their fields.
- Reasonable, quality-focused billables (target around 1,800), applied sensibly by team rather than rigidly across the board.
- Hybrid flexibility: Most teams are in the office more than not because that's where mentorship happens, but we're realistic about life. As long as your team knows how to reach you, we trust you.
- A meaningful bonus structure: tiered productivity bonuses, origination bonuses on business you bring in, and discretionary bonuses that recognize pro bono work, big trials, and exceptional contributions. On our busiest teams, these can be substantial.
- A real path to partnership for those who want it.
About the Role
A rare opportunity to train in public finance under two of the most respected bond attorneys in the state. This is a specialized, long-runway practice — we're bringing someone on now to begin the learning curve as the group plans for the future. You'd work alongside senior paralegals who handle much of the mechanics, with room to grow into a deep specialty.
Requirements
- Roughly 2–5 years of experience
- A CPA or accounting/finance background is a plus — but we've also hired people with none of that who simply had genuine interest in bond work
- Curiosity and patience for a technical, specialized field
Pay
$145,000 - $165,000 per year
